The Ashanti Regional Secretariat of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has debunked media reports claiming that their party office was attacked during an event on the eve of Ghana’s general elections.

In a statement issued by Regional Secretary Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the party clarified that the gathering at the office was a press conference to address concerns over alleged fraudulent vehicles with fake registrations intended for suspicious electoral activities.

“The circulating footages and images have been grossly misrepresented. They do not depict an attack on our party office or any leader of the NDC. Instead, they show our leadership working to maintain order and ensure the focus remains on urging the security agencies to address the issue professionally and promptly,” the statement read.

Earlier media reports had suggested that the press conference, led by NDC organizer Joseph Yamin, was disrupted by agitated youth accusing the party leadership of inaction. Eyewitness accounts described heated confrontations, with one individual kicking over a table and calling for more decisive action from party leaders.

However, the NDC has attributed the unrest to youth frustrations over electoral irregularities, stressing that party leaders successfully de-escalated the situation.

The party also revealed that they have formally engaged the Ghana Police Service to investigate the vehicles in question, urging media outlets to avoid spreading misinformation that could heighten public tensions.

“We urge the media to refrain from spreading falsehoods that could incite unnecessary fear or tension among the public,” the statement added.

The NDC reiterated its commitment to peace and democracy, calling on Ghanaians to remain vigilant as they exercise their right to vote.
