Highlife icon Kojo Ashakan, also known as Starman, has arrived in Ghana from Australia.

A native of Asante Newtown, Kojo Ashakan rose to fame with his album “Cedi Nya Egye,” which features the popular songs “Bra Na Mafe Wo,” “Mensa Ato Bi So,” and “Stealing in the Name of the Lord.

While in Ghana, Kojo Ashakan plans to honour the late highlife legends Daddy Lumba and Dada KD by attending their one-week observation and funeral.

Daddy Lumba, celebrated as one of Ghana’s greatest and most influential musicians, passed away on July 26, 2025, at the age of 60, at the Bank Hospital after a short illness.

The one-week observation of the late ‘Oben Wo Ha’ singer will take place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium (Legon Sports Stadium) on Saturday, August 30, 2025.

Dada K.D., who died on May 16, 2025, will be buried on September 7, 2025, in Koforidua.

Ashakan has a personal connection to both artists: his breakthrough album, “Cedi Nya Egye,” was finalised at K.D.’s home, and he briefly crossed paths with Daddy Lumba while recording the song “Mensa Ato Bi So.”

The Australia-based Ghanaian Highlife legend is also expected to release two new singles during his stay in Ghana in the coming weeks.

Fans can look forward to two new tracks that showcase Kojo Ashakan’s signature style of combining melodic tunes with meaningful lyrics.

The first single, titled “Weather No Di Nehu Aba,” is a danceable highlife-Afrobeat song with a romantic message, perfect for hitting the dance floor.

The second track, “Bible Bible,” takes a more serious tone. It addresses hypocrisy, specifically focusing on individuals and institutions that claim to be virtuous but engage in corrupt practices.

Kojo Ashakan’s lyrics challenge the idea that people can go to churches and Mosques to pray for a better society while simultaneously contributing to the corruption the nation is facing.
