Ghana’s William Berekorang Asare has been appointed Competition Manager for the 2026 ITTF-Africa Youth Cup, which takes place on July 28 and 29 at the Borteyman Sports Complex in Accra.
The two-day tournament serves as an International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) ranking event and provides a platform to identify and develop emerging table tennis talents from across Africa.
Asare, who is the Treasurer of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA), brings considerable experience to the role. The appointment marks the fifth time he has served as Competition Manager at an ITTF-sanctioned event, having held the position since 2019.
Over the years, he has overseen logistics, scheduling and technical operations at several regional and continental competitions, establishing himself as one of Ghana’s experienced table tennis administrators.
Speaking ahead of the tournament, Asare expressed appreciation to the ITTF and the Ghana Table Tennis Association for the confidence reposed in him.
“I feel grateful for the opportunity given to me by the ITTF through the GTTA. To serve Ghana and Africa on home soil is a big responsibility, and we are ready to deliver a tournament that meets international standards,” he said.
His appointment underscores Ghana’s growing reputation as a host of major international table tennis competitions and reflects the GTTA’s commitment to developing not only athletes but also sports administrators capable of serving at the highest level.
The 2026 ITTF-Africa Youth Cup has brought together some of the continent’s brightest young table tennis talents, with players competing for valuable world ranking points and continental honours.
